Austin-based singer-songwriter, 1st Base Runner has a new EP dropping in November, but in anticipation of that has a new music video for the track "Only One" that is directed by one of the most prolific music video directors ever, Matt Mahurin.
Mahurin is famous for directing videos for Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Tom Waits amongst others. That's pretty dope company, and it adds legitimacy to the project that should excite fans of 1st Base Runner and people unfamiliar with the artist, alike.
I'm gonna give the video a once over (you should too, it's literally just below this sentence) before I get to reviewing the entire EP down the road. Stay tuned for my thoughts on it.

The song is mesmerizing enough on its own, but you add the creepy, hypnotic visual of the music video to it and it's enough to put you in a trance. The video harkens back to the simple aesthetic of the "Dirt" era Alice in Chains clips of the early 90s. The song itself is solid, even if it lacks a degree of melody, but the video definitely puts it over the top for artistic matching. I'm not exactly sure what's going on or what any of it ultimately means, but I don't care that much because it's all really interesting to watch unfold.
