Title track "Purple Skies" leads us off and it's pretty direct in nature with a hypnotic beat and synth tones that create a pretty killer melody line. So far I'm pretty impressed with the musicality. Let's see what's next. "Halcyon" is track two and it's slower-tempo and a little darker. Reminds me of a Beck song of the "Mutations" album a little. Solid. "Chernobyl" sounds serious. The most impressive thing is how different all of these songs sound. Coming from a 12-year-old kid, it's amazing that there is this degree of depth. Epic tune. "Blurred" has more pop appeal than the others. Danceable and happy-sounding, it's another different sound. "Omnidirectional Hyperjet" thumps hard at times and that's a good thing. This might be my favorite track on an already solid debut. "Mountain Face" sounds like a computer having a nervous breakdown. Frantic and panic-inducing, it's another interesting track on an album full of them. "Borealis" is where the album ends and it's sad that it's over and this song kind of reflects that. It's kind of a bummer. I wonder if that was on purpose?
Well, the kid has chops! I found this album very enjoyable top to finish. Although there weren't any tracks that truly blew me away, I thought all of them ranged from very good-to-great and for a 12-year-old that's mighty impressive. Recommended for my EDM heads out there.
