Now Hear This: Cry Wolf (single) - Bill Abernathy

Rating: ***

Folkster, Bill Abernathy has a cool story.

He played music growing up and then stopped because...well...life. It's a story that I'm sure is more common than we think and we've probably missed out on countless hours of amazing music because people never went back to it. Well, that isn't the case here. Bill came back!

Now is it any good? I'm not sure. I haven't listened to it yet. But in 2017 he did have some success on the indie folk charts so obviously there were people that were picking up what he was laying down.

I'm gonna kick the tires on the single titled "Cry Wolf" off the album "Crossing Willow Creek" and come back to tell you all about it.

Stay tuned.

Ok well. I'm conflicted because musically it isn't really up my alley at all. I listened through it a few times and it did grow on me though so that's a good sign. Lyrically I love it. It's such a great takedown of the current political regime. It's funny and clever and also biting and sharp. He sings it with passion and heart and the voiceovers are placed well. I loved the spirit of it, even if I didn't love the song itself.

The message is great and there is most definitely a crowd that will dig the song itself for what it is. I'm mixed but overall I think it's solid for the ballsy lyrical content in this fucked up world we are living in.
