Now Hear This: Matterbloomlight (single) - Eric Anders and Mark O'Bitz

Rating: ****

By this time I'm super familiar with the work of songwriting duo Eric Anders and Mark O'Bitz. I've reviewed an Eric Anders LP. An LP of the duo. Now here I am about to press play on the new single with a curious name "Matterbloomlight".

It's apparently an ode to the novel "Lincoln in the Bardo" by George Saunders. I haven't read that novel, and I'm not going to right now just to have a better idea of what this song is referencing. That said, I hear it's dope.

I'm gonna grab some coffee and throw my oversized Behringer headphones on and check this one out. Join me.

Listen to "Of All These Things" on Soundcloud here:

This one immediately takes you somewhere. It's very atmospheric. Lyrically, it's clearly nodding to parts of the book that I haven't read. That's ok. I'm smart. I can play along. I really love the arrangement and it's really well sung. This isn't gonna be on top 40 radio anytime soon, but it's really great. Reminds me of Springsteen.

People that listen to these guys already aren't gonna be disappointed. It's just what you'd expect. Well crafted, slightly dark, and prepared to make you think. Really great single. More, please. Highly recommended.
