Henry Metal is an interesting story, he's essentially part comedian/part musician/all metal. He hit the scene in 2017 hard with 4 full-length releases. That's a ton of metal.
His latest release is called "Metal O'Clock" and I think that's the perfect time to check it out and write my thoughts on it.
Let's fucking rock.
Watch the music video for "Thrash Your Head" on YouTube below:
We lead off with "I Don't Care" and it's way less metal than I was expecting. Musically, it harkens back to 80's glamsters Twisted Sister. There's a lot of cussing which I love because I'm painfully immature. It's funny, but not like REALLY FUNNY. Next. Single "Thrash Your Head" is next and it's dumb fun. It's really simple, but it's ok for what it is. Track three is the Viking tribute called "Odin." It's the most genuinely funny track thus far. That said, it's not funny enough to suffer through music for much longer than a minute or so. Track four is "For The Love of Freyja" and it's more of the same. It's just not good enough. "Thank God For The Government" is actually ok. Funny and a decent song in and of itself. Kinda reminds me of LA Guns. "Addicted to Junk" is a biting take on consumerism and is actually two decent tunes in a row. The penultimate track is "Gettin' Messed Up" and it's an over-the-top track that's all about getting wasted. They reference a "bag of brown" which takes you back to the good old days of cheap bammer weed. Average. The album ends with "Plastic Surgery." It's a funny enough jab at Hollywood botox addicts that has a real old Anthrax vibe. One of my favorite tracks on the album.

Listen, I wanted to like Henry Metal a lot more than I did. It's not a complete failure, but it's not good either. Maybe he blew his creative load on the other three albums he dropped this year? I'll have to go back listen to find out. Pass.
