Now Hear This: Girls Like Us (single) - ZALI

Rating: ****

On November 10th, ZALI is releasing a single called "Girls Like Us". I'd be bummed that I wasn't able to listen to it until then because there is something really captivating about a Keyboard Keith produced track that was engineered by James Darkin (Hozier, Gavin James, Kanye West, and Rihanna).
What I know about ZALI is this: She's from Ireland. She's inspired by artists like Amy Winehouse and Frank Ocean. She had a single earlier this year called "Can't Stop" that had over 100,000 streams on Spotify.
She's got some real heat at the moment. So as fate would have it, I got to sample the track a little early and offer my thoughts.
Are you interested in that? Yes? That's what I thought.

First impression is that it's dope. She can really sing. She's not showing off with a lot of runs, she's sticking to the melody and it really fits the structure of the song well. The beat is hypnotic. The verse is short and leads to a pretty straightforward chorus. Lyrically, it's about a girl getting pretty screwed over in a relationship. It's a basic premise but still rings true.
"Girls like us don't trust."
It's relatable stuff. I can see this getting more that 100,000 streams actually. It could be a major hit with the right marketing. Really strong single.
ZALI can be a star. Her last two singles have been excellent and she's got such a rad vibe to her and her music. Sky's the limit. I can't wait to see what's next.
